Abstract
We explored the usefulness of an inexpensive commercially available CCD-camera for documentation of macroscopic images in routine pathology. Such a camera (Phillips ToUCam pro) was connected to a personal computer via universal serial bus (USB) and used together with the software provided with the camera. With a resolution of 1 million pixels and a sensitivity of 1 lux this type of camera can be used to produce images of sufficient quality in a short time and in combination with low costs. Although the camera did not reach the high resolution of a conventional 35mm camera or a professional digital images documentation system, it represents an ideal alternative for small laboratories and a second line system for pre-existing conventional devices.
