Abstract
This paper is based mainly on the results of the ‘Survey of Information Specialists Labour Market in the Baltic States’, a research project undertaken by the Faculty of Communication at Vilnius University and the Department of Information Studies at the Tallinn Pedagogical University. The objective of the research was to establish the main trends in the labour market for information specialists that will enable planning the studies and number of students for institutions of higher education. Three main sectors of employment were selected: a) emerging sector of information service; b) established sector of libraries; and c) information management in different economic sectors. The author introduces the methods of research and main findings.
