Abstract
Genesis, framework and curriculum of the new degree programme Media Documentation at the Fachhochschule Hamburg are described and characterized taking into consideration the actual situation of professional practice as well as education and training in the field of press and media documentation. The striving for a modem reform of information and documentation education in Hamburg led to the introduction of the new degree programme, using both a theoretical and practical approach in teaching students the documentation of various media in media-oriented working organizations. Content and aims as well as teaching methods of the degree programme are described and organization and structure of the curriculum are explained. The extensive proportion of practical training components within the Hamburg course of study will be realized on the basis of an intensive cooperation of the Fachhochschule department with most media companies in the Hamburg region.
