Abstract
A study of library and information science faculty in the United States and Canada undertaken to determine the need for replacements due to retirements and other withdrawals from teaching.
With a return rate of more than eighty percent to a survey questionnaire, information on age, gender, experience and retirement plans led to the conclusion that there will be a serious depletion of faculty resources in library schools before the year 2001.
Plans should be made to recruit, educate and retain qualified new faculty for replacement purposes immediately.
