Abstract
The basic lines of the new ordinance regulating university studies in Spain, and the possibilities it offers for the design of a complete academic model for the education and training of librarians, archivists, and information scientists are analyzed. Several proposals are put forward. In order to assist comprehension, the situation up until the present time has been outlined. The curriculum and the job market are both covered, as well as the current professional environment and its problems.
