Abstract
The educational backgrounds of a sample of 124 special librarians are studied and 11 educational factors are evaluated. The diversity of the response leads to the conclusion that it may be unrealistic for library education to try to train special librarians for specific positions, and the schools' emphasis should be on preparing competent professionals for whatever job situations they find.
