Abstract
The essay uses as a base for discussion the undergraduate degree in librarianship and information studies at the Polytechnic of North London. The curricula problems are discussed under the following headings: course objectives, teaching sequence and the conceptual relationships between the major elements of the course. Also discussed are the problems of integration of diverse approaches to form a coherent teaching pattern. The work concludes with a discussion of the problems of forming a taxonomy of objectives in professional education, with particular reference to the rapidly changing environment of librarianship and information work.
