Abstract
The developments and trends in research in library and information science with particular reference to the U.S.A., the U.K. and India are traced. Factors contributing to these developments in the context of the U.S.A. and the U.K. are discussed. Ranganathan’s contributions in the field are discussed in detail. Some of the factors hindering research in India are listed as well as those areas which require the attention of researchers.
