Abstract
This paper discusses the motives behind the development of teaching aids to introduce students to online bibliographic searching. The range of such aids developed and used at the College of Librarianship Wales is reviewed and the importance of microcomputers is emphasized. A microcomputer package developed at the College is described, comprising a CAL module to familiarize students with the DIALOG command language and an Emulation which allows students to make uncontrolled heuristic searches on a ‘microdatabase’ of 110 records, using DIALOG commands and receiving DIALOG-like responses.
