Abstract
The application of agent technology to the solution of problems in health care has in recent years become increasingly common. A workshop on this area of research was held as part of the 16th European Conference on Artificial Intelligence (ECAI-2004), in Valencia, August 2004, at which twelve papers were presented. This special issue contains extended versions of a selection of five of the papers presented at the workshop.
