Abstract
This work examines the biophysical properties of two commercially available perfluorochemical artificial bloods with whole blood. The two per fluorocarbon emulsions used were Fluosol-DA and Fluosol-43. The experimental studies included shear viscometry, osmotic pressure, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, osmotic fragility and malonamide induced hemolysis. The results of this investigation are interpreted in terms of the composition of the artificial blood and its interaction with the components of whole blood.
