Abstract
A fluid mechanical model for the interpretation of the intestinal activity is proposed. The intestinal contents are assumed to behave rheologically as a power law fluid. The intraluminal pressures are obtained in terms of the parameters characterizing the power law fluid and the geometry and the kinematics of the intestinal wall. The differences between peristaltic movement and isolated contraction of the wall are discussed.
