Abstract
The time dependence of the viscosity of dilute solutions of collagen was used as a means of investigating a kinetic mechanism for the unwinding of the collagen triple helix. It was possible to show that a two step process could be used to explain the data. From a temperature related viscosity study, activation parameters were obtained for the kinetics of unwinding for collagen from both young and old rat tail tendons.
