Abstract
A new parallel plate instrument for the detection of a yield stress of blood is described. Its calibration and performance with materials of known properties are outlined, together with brief details of results obtained with blood. These results are shown to be consistent with those obtained by some other workers using various methods. Finally, an assessment is made of the physiological significance of a yield stress of the size suggested by the measurements.
