Abstract
In a recent paper, entitled “A critique of pure reason”, Drew McDermott attacks the logicist position in AI. The logicist position has been adopted by several people, such as Pat Hayes, John McCarthy, Bob Moore, James Allen, Jerry Hobbs, and indeed Drew McDermott himself. The paper will appear shortly in Computational Intelligence, together with some reactions to it by various researchers from the States and Canada. The following is a summary of the paper together with some sketchy personal reactions.
