Abstract
Knowledge engineering tools are (software) tools which aid the knowledge engineer (KE) during one or more phases of the development of a knowledge based system (KBS). Most commercially available knowledge engineering tools (e.g. expert system shells, AI toolkits like ART, KEE and Knowledge-Craft) only help the KE in actually implementing a KBS. These tools provide no help in the analysis phase of KBS development (feasibility, knowledge acquisition, requirements analysis). In this paper we will look at some existing tools which help KEs during knowledge acquisition.
