Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines undergo smooth aromatisation on oxidation by poly{[4-(hydroxy)(tosyloxy)iodo] styrene} (PS-HTIB) in CH2Cl2 at room temperature to afford the corresponding pyridine derivatives in good yields. The polymeric reagent can be recycled and reused with no obvious loss of activity.
