Abstract
An easy and convenient method is reported for the synthesis of 2-hydroxybenzaldehyde and 2-hydroxynaphthalene-1-carbaldehyde from corresponding phenols by Reimer–Tiemann reaction using aqueous ethyl alcohol and avoiding steam/vaccum distillation.
