N,N-Diacetyloximo-1,3-diamino-2-hydroxypropane reacts with metal(II) acetate yields complexes. The complexes were characterised by elemental analyses, IR, UV-VIS spectra, molar conductances, magnetic moments, DTA, and ESR measurements. The ESR spectrum of a solid copper(II) complex [LCu] H2O, (6) at room temperature shows a broad signal, indicating spin exchange interactions take place between the copper(II) ions. However, in chloroform at 77K, the spectrum shows an axial type symmetry (dx2–y2) with considerable covalent bond character. The ESR spectra of a doped complex (7) in the temperature range 243–244 K have been investigated.
