Abstract
Reaction mechanisms are provided for the formation of diastereomeric 2,4-dialkyl-6-oxo-2,4-heptadienonitriles (including minor diastereoisomers observed for the first time) from 2,4,6-trialkylpyrylium salts and aqueous sodium cyanide.
