Synthesis of Σ-Bonded [60]Fullerene Metallacycle Compound η 2 -Σ-C 60 [Moη 5 -Eto 2 Cc 5 H 4 )(Co) 2 ] 2 (Dppe) Via Reaction of K 2 C 60 and [η 5-Eto 2 Cc 5 H 4 (Co) 2 Moi] 2 (Dppe) †
The first σ-bonded [60]fullerene organometallic complex metallacycle η2-σ-C60[Mo(η5-EtO2CC5H4) (CO)2]2 (dppe) (dppe=Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) is synthesized by reaction of K2C60 with a new electrophile η5-EtO2CC5H4(CO)2MoI2(dppe), both of which have been characterized by elemental analysis and spectroscopy.

To our knowledge, except the Mo and W σ-bonded [60]-fullerene derivatives of (μ-C60)M2(CO)6(η5-C5H4CO2Et)2 (M=Mo, W) (see: ZhuY.-H., SongT.-C., HuQ.-M., and LiC.-M.Org. Lett, 1999, 1, 1693.) only the Zr and Re σ-bonded [60]fullerene derivatives of (Cp2Zr Cl)nC60Hn and C60[Re(CO)5]2 are known, but they were not isolated and only partly characterized in situ.
