1) FHA (9α-fluoro-11β-hydroxy-Δ4-androstene-3,17 -dione) was an effective sodium retaining substance but was inactive in thymolytic and anti-inflammatory tests. This is the first instance of a highly active sodium retaining substance in the C19 series. 2) Introduction of fluorine at the 9α-position in 11β-hydroxy-Δ4-androstene-3,17-dione resulted in a compound essentially inactive as an androgen while the uterotrophic activity was intensified as compared to the non-fluorinated steroid.
