Abstract
Summary
An assay for the potency of antimetabolites of serotonin has been described. This assay was rapid and easy to perform and the results were readily reproducible. The recommended method was an in vivo one which measured the effects on the intestinal tract. It involved determination of the potency of a compound in causing protection against diarrhea when a large dose of the serotonin-precursor, 5 - hydroxytryptophane, was injected.
