Abstract
Summary
Effects of hydrocortisone on activation of and response to anaphylatoxin were studied using isolated guinea pig ileum. Hydrocortisone at 1.25 mg/ml inhibited activation of anaphylatoxin in vitro. At the same concentration in the tissue bath it also inhibited effects of activated anaphylatoxin on isolated guinea pig ileum. This inhibition was attributed to a non-specific desensitization of the muscle rather than to direct inhibition of anaphylatoxin or histamine release.
