Abstract
Summary
It has been demonstrated that certain uncoupling agents increase the hypnotic effects of certain barbiturates. Potentiation by uncoupling agents is not the result of inhibition of detoxication mechanisms nor is epinephrine release implicated since the effect is not prevented by adrenergic blocking agents. The nature of this effect and its relationship to the mechanism of action of the barbiturates is discussed.
