Abstract
Summary
1. Erythrocyte hemolysate possesses anti-heparin activity that can correct the prolonged thrombin time and impaired prothrombin consumption of heparinized blood. This makes erythrocyte hemolysate a useful reagent to detect heparinemia and to permit the evaluation of plasma clotting factor activities in heparinized blood. 2. Erythrocyte hemolysate also produces some shortening of the thrombin time of plasma not containing added heparin.
