Abstract
Conclusion
1. The somatotropic activity of a pork pituitary preparation, obtained by the method of Raben was compared with that of the newly released USP Growth Hormone Reference Standard. Some results were dependent on the pH of the injection vehicle. When alkaline solutions were used, the Raben preparation was about one-third as active as the USP material, but when injections were made in an acid vehicle both preparations exhibited equi-potent activity. 2. When somatotropic preparations are assayed against the USP Growth Hormone Reference Standard an alkaline solution must be used, since the USP material shows decreased activity when dissolved in acid.
