Abstract
Summary
Three salts of penicillin G and one of penicillin V were found to be essentially equal when administered orally in sparing the rat's dietary requirement for thiamine, as determined by rates of growth and thiamine levels in the liver. Growth was not stimulated to a statistically significant degree upon administering these antibiotics intraperitoneally every other day, although thiamine levels in the livers were elevated by such treatment. The effects of penicillin on thiamine levels in ileal and cecal contents were inconclusive.
