Effect of Intrinsic Factor Concentrate on Vit. B 12 Absorption by Gastrectomized Rats

Summary

1. Gastrectomized rats and appropriate control animals were fed 50-200 mμg cobalt-60 labeled vit. B₁₂ with and without intrinsic factor concentrates. Absorption was determined by scintillation counting of feces homogenates. 2. No absorption of vit. B₁₂ by the gastrectomized animals was noted. 3. Absorption by control animals was inhibited by intrinsic factor concentrate, the extent of inhibition increasing with the quantity of concentrate administered.
