Abstract
Summary
Cortisone and hydrocortisone act in vitro inhibiting the growth of explanted chick embryo femur anlages. This effect is evident 24 hours after explantation, and increases until the 15th day after the beginning of the experiment. When the hormone is withdrawn at the first transplantation, the anlage recovers active growth and in some instances surpasses the dimensions of the control.
