Abstract
Summary
5'-Hydroxysulfapyridine, a urinary excretion product of sulfapyridine is as active in vitro as sulfapyridine against S. pyogenes and E. coli. It is without significant protective power in mice infected with these organisms. It is suggested that the loss of activity in vivo may be attributed to conjugation and excessively rapid elimination. Similar results were observed with the 3' and 6' isomers.
