Abstract
Conclusion
1) Dilute alcohol applied directly to the mucosa of the body and the fundus of the stomach does not usually stimulate secretion of acid gastric juice. 2) Dilute alcohol is a powerful stimulant of the “gastrin” mechanism of the pyloric antrum. It appears that in response to ingested alcohol, 2/3 of the gastric juice secreted results from this mechanism. 3) Alcohol is known to activate the intestinal phase of gastric secretion. This mechanism accounts for about 1/3 of the secretory response to ingested alcohol.
