Abstract
Summary
The intracellular localization of an enzyme system which alters the 17,21-dihydroxy-20-ketone side-chain of cortisone was studied in rat liver. The nuclei and mitochondria were inactive. The enzyme was found to be approximately equally distributed between a microsome fraction sedimented at 20,000 X gravity and the supernatant fraction. The enzyme activity was greatly enhanced on addition of magnesium and either glucose-6-phosphate, citrate, or isocitrate.
