Abstract
Summary
1. Rauwiloid, a selected alkaloidal extract of Rauwolfia serpentine, administered orally for 5 days to dogs at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg/day, significantly elevated the emetic threshold to intravenously administered Veriloid in those animals which were sedated. No alteration in the emetic threshold was observed in non-sedated animals. 2. Premedication of dogs with intravenously administered phenobarbital sodium at a dose of 25 mg/kg which produced a degree of sedation apparently similar to that of Rauwiloid, was without effect on emesis induced by Veriloid.
