Abstract
Summary and Conclusions
Intravenous administration of 2 g of a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor, sodium1 p-sulfamyl benzoate, produced no significant changes in renal hemodynamics or metabolism, mean arterial blood pressure or cardiac output. The negativity of these results despite large changes in urinary pH and electrolyte excretion (12) provide additional support to the concept that the kidney utilizes oxygen for the maintenance of cellular integrity rather than for the performance of external work.
