Conclusions
1. No appreciable ammonia exists in the cerebrospinal fluid of normal individuals. 2. In disease of the liver or portal circulation abnormal elevations in the level of ammonia in peripheral blood may occur, and these are accompanied by corresponding but lesser elevations in levels of ammonia in the cerebrospinal fluid. 3. The significance of these observations is discussed.
