Summary
Baby mouse adapted MEF1 poliomyelitis virus has been bombarded by deuterons and alpha particles. The inactivation of infectivity corresponds to a cross section of 7.1 ± 3.5 × 10-12 cm2 for alpha particles and 6.0 ± 5.3 × 10-12 cm2 for deuterons. The radius of an assumed spherical sensitive volume so deduced is 15.7 ± 4.8 mμ.
