Abstract
Summary
The anticoagulant effects of a sulfated polysaccharide, the sodium salt of the sulfuric acid ester of chitin, have been described. It has an in vivo potency 1/4 to 1/5 that of heparin activity. Duration of action and toxicity are both directly related to average molecular weight. The occurrence of toxic side reactions in the dog are similar to some of those reported in the human for another sulfated polysaccharide. Limitations of potential clinical usefulness are discussed.
