Dihydrouracil and β-ureidopro-pionic acid, the “uracil counterparts” of di-hydroorotic acid and ureidosuccinic acid, intermediates in the biosynthesis of orotic acidr are inactive in promoting growth of 8 pyrimidineless lactobacilli.
