Summary
Under conditions favoring the excretion of bicarbonate, the rate of excretion of bicarbonate decreased, while the rates of excretion of other electrolytes increased, during an osmotic (glucose) diuresis. Possible explanations for this observation are discussed in relation to present concepts of osmotic diuresis and of the excretion of bicarbonate.
