Abstract
Summary
1. Deplanted amphibian nerve centers can be studied conveniently in vitro in an artificial medium. 2. The endogenous discharges which they display are consistently influenced by potassium, calcium, hydrogen andbicarbonate ions. 3. Different ions, though acting presumbly in different ways on the autorhythmic mechanism, can be made to neutralize each other's effect as far as the resultant frequency of the discharges is concerned.
