Summary

1. The maximal rate of renal tubular reabsorption of glucose was determined before and after the intravenous administration of 20 units crystalline zinc insulin in a series of 12 non-diabetic male subjects who were free of evidence of cardiovascular or renal disease. Following the administration of insulin, there occurred a slight, but statistically significant, decrease in Tm_G during the period extending from 12 to 48 minutes after injection. 2. The significance of these findings, with respect to the fundamental action of insulin, is discussed.
