Abstract
Summary
Diphtherial toxin-hemin mixtures prepared under a wide range of conditions of pH, ionic strength, buffer ions, molar ratio of hemin to toxin and incubation time have been examined spectrophotometrically. Combination of purified diphtherial toxin with hemin was observed only under conditions leading to non-specific alkali hemi- and hemochrome formation. The significance of these findings to the Pappenheimer proposals relating diphtherial toxin to cytochrome b is discussed.
