Conclusion
The red fraction, previously isolated from a stenothermophilic bacterium, represents a specific piece of bacterial protoplasm. The evidence presented consists of photographs taken with the phase contrast microscope, photomicrographs of stained preparations of bacteria and of red fraction, and of enzymatic data. The enzymatic data rest chiefly on the presence of succinoxidase activity.
