Summary
The topical application of acetylcholine or related parasympathomimetic drugs to the mucosa of canine fundic pouches results in the secretion of alkaline opalescent viscid mucus which is free of columnar cells. These studies confirm our previous conclusion, that the exfoliation of gastric surface cells is not an essential part of the process of mucus secretion.
