Abstract
Summary
Certain amino acids reduce considerably the nephrotoxic action of meralluride sodium in the rat. Among the amino acids examined 1(+) arginine monohydrochlorid and glycine were found to be most effective. The beneficial influence seen in microscopic sections as well as in the reduced proteinuria following a toxic dose of the mercurial diuretic is attributed to the competitive suppression of tubular reabsorption of the injurious mercury.
