Abstract
Summary and Conclusions
The administration of growth hormone to hypophysectomized dogs in the post-absorptive state results in a marked fall in blood sugar. This marked hypoglycemic response is seen only after the first of a series of injections of the hormone. The hypoglycemic effect of growth hormone also occurs in acutely depancreatized dogs. It is concluded that the presence of the pancreas is not essential for the aforementioned action of growth hormone. However, it remains to be established whether insulin is a necessary factor for the growth hormone induced hypoglycemia.
