Abstract
Summary
Calcification in vitro of the hypertrophic epiphyseal cartilage was found to be inhibited by 4.8 × 10−4 M sodium desoxycholate, 1.9 × 10−3 M sodium cholate, 1.4 × 10−3 M Duponal C, and .08% Tween−20. By preliminary treatment of rachitic sections with higher concentrations of these surface active agents for a short time interval, it was possible to demonstrate inhibition only with the bile salts and Duponal C.
