Abstract
Summary
In a quantitative chemical study of developing muscle there is a greater activity of adenosinetriphosphatase than is warranted by the increase in amount of myosin proteins. In order to ascertain the reason for this discrepancy determinations of phosphatase activity were made on fractions of developing muscle obtained from rat embryos of 14 days, fetuses of 19 days, rats of 1-2 days and 9-10 days of age. The activity was calculated in micrograms of phosphorus liberated in 15 min. at 37.5° per mg N.
