Abstract
Conclusion
These experiments indicate that if the period of complete ischemia does not exceed 2 hours, the rat kidney can regain enough function to permit survival. With complete ischemia of 3 hours' duration chance of survival is reduced to about half. Cessation of renal blood flow for more than 3 hours usually results in loss of capacity for compensatory hypertrophy and hence may be considered irreversible.
